Most Americans who work in the embassy and the Barcelona consulate
are permanent employees of agencies in the United States, which assign
them here for periods of two to four years from Washington: Foreign Service
officers and staff of the Departments of State, Commerce, and Agriculture,
and the Public Affairs Section; military personnel; law enforcement officers

The Department of State annually sponsors internships where highly qualified

Due to the volume of responses, individual
acknowledgements regarding receipt of applications cannot be made. Only those
applicants who are invited for an interview will be notified regarding the
status of their applications.
Offers of employment are conditional: employees are required to serve a six-month probationary period
upon employment. During this time the employee must demonstrate his/her
qualifications and general suitability for continued employment. During the
probationary period, appointments may be terminated at any time.
