IF YOU ARE ROBBED. HOW TO GET MONEY FORM THE U.S.

If you have a valid picture ID  (e.g., passport or driver’s license)

Have your friend or relative in America call Western Union at 800-752-6077 or 800-325-6000.

They can instruct Western Union to transfer any amount of money to you instantly, simply by providing WU with a valid credit card number. There is a fee for service, based on the amount of money transferred. The friend or relative may also go to the nearest Western Union agent to deposit funds on your behalf. Funds will be disbursed in Euros. There is no waiting period; the transfer is instantaneous.

To find out where and when to pick up the money in Spain, call toll free 900-633-633. The person answering will be an English speaker. Western Union has several offices in Barcelona; the one located at Ramblas 41 is open from 9:30 AM until midnight.

If you DO NOT have a valid picture ID (e.g., everything was stolen)

Without a passport, you cannot obtain money transfers from Western Union. You will have to come to the U.S. Consulate in Barcelona DURING WORKING HOURS (9 AM to 1 PM, Monday - Friday except for U.S. and Spanish holidays) and bring a passport-sized photo with you. We will then prepare an official letter, which you can present in lieu of passport in order to obtain funds from your family/friends through Western Union. There is no charge for this letter.
