Madrid Embassy Furthers Science & Technology Exchanges with Spain
Based on an initiative by Ambassador Romero, on October 11 in Madrid, University of New Mexico President William Gordon received a 1.5 million dollar donation from President Íñigo de Oriol of Iberdrola Corporation, a leading Spanish energy firm, for the "Prince of Asturias Chair in Information Science and Technology." The creation of the chair contributes significantly to new bilateral initiatives in Science and Technology cooperation discussed at recent meetings in Washington between U.S. Secretary of State Madeline Albright and Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Piqué.
