PUBLIC AFFAIRS

The Public Affairs Section (PA) in Barcelona works closely with local government officials, political parties, academics, think tanks, media, business, foundations, and non-governmental organizations to promote U.S. foreign policy and interests. Public Affairs is also responsible for the Consulate General's media relations. Through cultural, educational and informational activities the Public Affairs section provides information and materials that explains and supports U.S. policy, society and values; promotes the Fulbright program and other cultural and educational exchange programs; presents key issues to targeted audiences in the region by organizing seminars and lectures with the participation of American speakers; and most importantly, maintains close personal contact with a wide range of key figures in the region.

Public Affairs Barcelona also works with an independent, self-funding, binational center, the Institute of North American Studies (IEN), which offers English teaching, American Studies programs, U.S. testing (TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, SAT), and advice on how to study in the United States, as well as serving as a catalyst for information and cultural exchange between Catalonia and the U.S.

The Public Affairs Section (PA) organizes activities and programs with the objective of promoting the relationships between the U.S. and the Consular District.

International Visitor Program

With this program we identify the main political, social, economical and cultural leaders of the Consular District, with the aim of inviting them to travel to the U.S. so that they can meet with their American colleagues involved in their professional field. With this type of activities the visitors can obtain information at first hand about all those institutions in the U.S. related to their own activity.

Voluntary Visitor Program

Through this program the Public Affairs Section arranges activities addressed to professional groups at a high level that want to visit the US. Some of the expenses of the trip can be partially paid by the Government.

Other Exchange Activities

The Public Affairs team also recommend individuals from the Consular District so that they can attend to conferences, seminars (Salzburg Seminar) and other activities held in the United States and Europe.
