Madame Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Ambassador, Mr. President of the University of New Mexico, Mr. Chief of Staff of the Office of H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias:

Thank you a thousand fold for having come to this, our corporate headquarters, on this happy day, to attend this ceremony at which we put aside things we consider important to focus on something that we are convinced really is. This is because it has to do with developing human capital, with future generations, with the technological innovation of our country and furthermore, with the fact that it bears the emblematic name of the Prince of Asturias.

You will understand for these reasons that it is an honor for me, an honor I will never forget, to have signed my name on behalf of Iberdrola on these Agreements creating the Prince of Asturias Endowed Chair in Information Science and Technology at the University of New Mexico. I share this honor with the Board of Directors of Iberdrola, its executives and all its employees.

It is an honor to have backed such an important project to which, as I stated, His Royal Highness has agreed to lend his name, giving it unique significance. It was an honor, Mr. Ambassador, to collaborate on this project with the United States, a country which we admire and from which we can learn so much, and, on this occasion, to work with the State of New Mexico, so closely tied to the history of Spain and with which we have such strong cultural and social bonds.

And, of course, it is also an honor to have collaborated with you personally and perceived your enthusiasm, effectiveness and good work, virtues you have been able to transmit to all of us who from now on will feel closely tied to the Endowed Chair.

It is an honor, my dear Mr. President of the University of New Mexico, to have signed these Agreements with one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, a leader in the field of Information Technology , and one that is so important technologically, culturally and socially. The University of New Mexico is located in a scientific environment that is unique in the world and looks especially to the Spanish-speaking world in developing its scientific and educational programs.

It is an honor, Madame Minister, to collaborate through this project with the policy of technological development and industrial modernization that the new Ministry you head is implementing so well and with such enthusiasm. We are convinced that this Endowed Chair that we have created today will bear important academic and scientific fruit both for Spain and for Ibero-America, the Hispanic world which is on the horizon of our ambitions.

Allow me, therefore, to offer a toast to the Prince of Asturias Endowed Chair in Information Science and Technology that we have just created.
