CONSULAR SECTION
Approximately 8,000 Americans reside in the consular district of the
Consulate General, which also attracts some 800,000 U.S. visitors annually.
Therefore, the major component of the State Department's work in Catalonia,
under the direction of the Consul, is providing services to this large body of
American citizens, including their
personal security
while living or visiting the consular district. The Department of State
maintains a Consular
Information Sheet with useful information for visitors.
In addition to ordinary passport issuance, notarials, birth certificates and
processing of nationality acquisition requests, the Consular Section provides
general information on legalization of documents. It
also provides tax
forms and Federal Post Card Applications to obtain
voting
ballots, and handles forms for some Social Security) procedures.
While it offers various consular services, its primary focus is emergency
assistance to Americans in distress. The Consular Section has developed a
General Information Guide for U.S. Citizens Residing in the
Barcelona Consular District.
This Consulate does not issue visas. (See the Embassy
Consular page.)
Consular Section hours open to the
