(see Department of State Page)

Individuals who need a visa to travel to the US must first schedule an appointment for an interview. Applicants may schedule interview appointments and obtain additional information by calling:

  • 807 488 472 from inside Spain or Andorra

  • (011) 49 9131 772 2087 from the United States

  • International access code + 49 9131 772 2087 from other countries

This service is available to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., Spanish time, Monday-Friday. From callers in Spain, the cost is 1,09 Euros per minute if you call from a landline telephone and 1,51 Euros per minute if you call from a mobile phone, including all taxes and costs. International callers will pay 10 Euros per transaction, which they can charge to a Visa Card or MasterCard. In both cases, the first 20 seconds of the call are free.  It is also important that you check the visa wait times in Embassy Madrid to see how long it will take to process your visa.

The telephone information and appointment line provides basic information about visa categories and the documents you will need when you apply for your visa.

Does Everyone Need to Make an Appointment to Apply for a Visa?

An interview is required for almost all applicants. However, you may apply by mail if you are:

  • 13 years of age or younger with European Visa Waiver countries passport,

  • 80 years of age or older,

  • An applicant for a diplomatic or official visa,

  • An applicant for a treaty trader or investor visa (you will be contacted for an interview after submitted documents have been reviewed)

You may mail the required documentation to the following address. If there are any questions about your application, you may be asked to appear for an interview after initial review of your application. Send the completed application, receipt of payment for the machine readable visa application fee, a 5 cm x 5 cm passport type photo, and any relevant documentation to:

NIV Consular Section
Embajada de los EE.UU.
Serrano 75
28006 Madrid

On the Day of the Interview…

No guarantees regarding your visa application can be made prior to the interview, and applicants are encouraged not to make non-refundable travel arrangements until the visa has been approved. Applicants will be told at the interview if the visa application has been approved and when they will receive their passport and visas. If an application for a visa has been approved the visa and passport will be returned by messenger service. On average it takes seven days to receive the passport. If the application is subject to additional security clearances or if additional information is required, the applicant will be informed at the interview.

Continuing worldwide terrorism threats require us to restrict luggage, back packs, or carry bags from being brought into the Embassy Consular Section. Please DO NOT attempt to bring these items inside. The guard has been instructed to deny access of any luggage or carry bags or packs unless there is a clearly demonstrated emergency or medical need that is authorized by the Consular Officer or the Regional Security Officer.

Due to the large number of individuals seeking assistance in the Consular Section, only those individuals specifically scheduled for a nonimmigrant or immigrant visa interview will be granted entry into the Consular Section. Please ask accompanying family or friends to wait for you in a nearby location. Applicants may enter the embassy up to 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time.

Machine Readable Visa Application Fee Payment Instructions

Applicants for non-immigrant visas must pay a non-refundable application fee of the equivalent of 131 US dollars in euros when they apply for their visas. This fee must be paid at any branch of Banco Santander Central Hispano (BSCH), bank account: 0049-1803-54-2210316035. Only applicants for diplomatic visas (A, G, C-3, and NATO), bearers of diplomatic passports, and exchange visitors sponsored by the Public Affairs Division of the U.S. Department of State are exempt from paying this application fee.

Please request payment into the following account number:

Banco Santander Central Hispano (BSCH)
0049-1803-54-2210316035

Nationals of some countries will have to pay an additional visa issuance fee based on the principle of reciprocity based on fees their governments charge Americans applying for similar visas. There is no reciprocal issuance fee for Spanish or Andorran citizens.

Applicants who apply in person for their visas must present the original receipt of payment with their application. Those who apply by mail or messenger service must include the receipt with their application. Any application submitted without a bank receipt will be returned without consideration. The receipt is valid for one year, even if there is a fee change during that period.

This fee is non-refundable even if your visa application is denied.
