Embassy Informational Message

U.S. EMBASSY informational MESSAGES

NOTICE TO U.S. CITIZENS

June 2008

The following Notice Message is for maximum dissemination to U.S. Citizens.

SUBJECT: Delivery Times for Passports and Visas

As you are probably aware, private transportation workers are currently on strike in Spain and, as part of their protests, they are blocking major highways. Such blockages have created major traffic congestion in and around Madrid, the land borders and elsewhere in the country, hampering the ability of companies to conduct business.

The strike has also affected the operations of the courier services the embassy uses to return new passports to American citizens and the passports of visa applicants. In light of the strike, we can no longer guarantee new American passport delivery within 7-10 business days or visas for non-Americans in 4-5 business days.

Emergency cases with a bona fide need to travel should be brought to our attention via consularmadrid@state.gov
