On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend to you and the people of Spain our greetings and warmest wishes on the occasion of Spain's National Day on October 12. Spain and the United States share deep bonds of history, friendship and common values. The strong support we have received from your government and people in this difficult period has reinforced these ties. We reaffirm our determination to defeat the terrorist threat to civilization and our way of life. The people on the United States look forward to a strong partnership with Spain in the days and years to come, founded in our deep commitment to advancing human rights and democratic ideals and ensuring peace and security in the world.
