CONDOLENCE BOOK AT THE U.S. EMBASSY IN MADRID

A book of condolence was available at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence  for those interested in expressing their condolences for the  terrorist attacks on New York and Washington D.C. of September 11, 2001.

Thousands of people, including  a broad range of Spanish leaders, came to pay their respects.

Ceremony in the U.S. Embassy commemorating the victims of the terrorists attacks in New York and Washington

NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND REMEMBRANCE

On September 14, 2001, the U.S. Embassy in Madrid participated in the United States' National Day of Prayer and Remembrance with a mid-day ceremony on the Embassy grounds for all Mission employees. Chargé d'Affaires, a.i., Heather M. Hodges addressed the gathering. She read the September 13 statement by Secretary of State Colin Powell and made other remarks of comfort and appreciation for the hard work of the employees and the support shown by the Spanish government and people. At noon, three minutes of silence were observed coinciding with the European Union Parliament's resolution commemorating the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, DC.
